Four Patches, basic units that seem so simple to make. Just stitch 4 squares together, either individually or with strip piecing and you’re good to go. But anyone who has attempted these units knows that they are notoriously difficult to make perfectly. Either the unit size isn’t quite right, the edges just don’t quite line up, or they’re just not quite square. Ugh. Even experienced stitchers encounter these problems.
The Four Patch Square Up© Tool is the solution. Like all the Studio 180 Design rulers and processes, this tool and technique will have you build your units slightly oversized and then quickly trim them to perfect shapes. The Four Patch Square Up© Tool is designed to work with units that finish to whole or half inch increments, from ½” finished up to 6” finished unit sizes. The tool’s perfectly engineered lines are designed to quickly locate and align with the unit center and the sewn seams, allowing for easy trimming on all four sides. The accuracy is amazing!
Your units will be the correct size. They will have seams properly positioned. And they will have edges that are straight, even, and square. No more guess work! So jump in and give it a try, you will be absolutely thrilled with the results.

This incredibly snazzy quilt was designed by Pam Goggans of Sager Creek Quilts & Yarnworks and is constructed using only Split Rectangle units! The pattern emerges with the combination of scrappy left and right slanting units strategically placed to create the large diamonds. And for a little extra bit of extra pizzazz some of the Split Rectangles units have double diagonal seams to add a dark pop of color to the diamond centers. Using the Split Rects you will have great success with the fun and interesting design.

If you’ve ever made Deb’s Atlantic Flyway or any of her Carolina Lily patterns, we’d be willing to bet you’re a fan of Migrating Geese! They look like offset flying geese, but are built in a row as a braid rather than individual units. We absolutely love to use it in our designs, and we wanted to make it accessible for your designing, too. The technique doesn’t use any special ruler, although we do recommend the use of our Quilter's Magic Wand to mark your ¼" seams. You’ll be able to make 7 different row sizes, from 3” wide to 12” wide. Online video available. Online video available.

Finally, a tool and technique that will give you high success adding fabric corners to basic shapes. For years we’ve been layering small squares on big squares, marking & stitching on a diagonal line, then hoping everything lines up when we fold the small corner section back into place. If you’ve tried it, you know the pitfalls: too big, too short, too crooked and way too wasteful. No more. With your new Corner Pop tool, you will be able to trim rather than mark, add an oversized replacement triangle and then square everything to a perfect size. In twenty four different sizes - whole, half and quarter inches. Increased success without undue stress for every level of quilter. What’s not to love!

Now you can make those tough elongated diamond units needed for any Storm at Sea project with ease and success. But remember, this is a basic unit that can combine with any of the other fundamental units to create many, many other interesting designs and quilt projects. You'll precision cut the center diamond, then sew on side triangles to create an oversized unit that you'll trim down to the perfect size.

Finally a tool for dealing with pieced rectangles that is easy to use and accurate. The Split Rects ruler gives you all you need to make perfect units every time: charts for the starting strips, guide lines for cutting the elongated triangles, an angled edge for easy cutting, and a trim down section that enables each pieced unit to be quickly and exactly trimmed to the desired size with perfect placement of the angled seam. Another great tool that is exactly right for your next quilt!

This tool creates a fundamental unit that is sure to add sparkle to your quilt block designs. Although the ruler shape is similar to the V Block, the final unit has two seamlines radiating from a single corner, so the center triangle in the finished unit resembles a beam of light shining out of that corner. Accurate construction has always been challenging until now. With the Corner Beam tool, all the shapes are cut slightly over sized and once sewn, trimmed to extremely precise units with seams perfectly placed for a crisp sharp point every time. Brighten up your blocks by adding Corner Beam to your toolbox today!

This tool is a must have if you like making quilts with these tall star point units. Sometimes known as “Peaky and Spike”, a nickname attached to the unit about 20 years ago by a famous quilter, Doreen Speckman, this particular shape has perplexed quilters forever. With Deb’s tool, which you can see used on our free online video demonstration (see below, also on YouTube), you’ll be cutting the center and side triangles slightly over sized and then with the same tool trimming the sewn piece to an extremely precise unit with seams perfectly placed for crisp, sharp points at every intersection. So think about adding this magnificent new tool to your toolbox, you’ll be glad you did.
