The Tucker Trimmer tool was designed to help quilter’s quickly and easily trim down units that are made with triangles: half square triangle squares, quarter square triangle squares (hourglass units), and combinations of half square and quarter square triangle squares (combination units). Tucker Trimmer III

The third in the Tucker Trimmer series of rulers, this version of our Tucker Trimmer is used for any block or unit that is larger than a 6” finished block size. It has all of the sizes of the Tucker Trimmer I plus thirteen additional size options up to and including trimming blocks to 13” (that will finish to 12 ½” when sewn). I love to use this tool to trim down my Lemoyne Star blocks made with my Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool and any type of block that needs to be trimmed and squared to a specific size. Four Patch Square Up

Four Patches, basic units that seem so simple to make. Just stitch 4 squares together, either individually or with strip piecing and you’re good to go. But anyone who has attempted these units knows that they are notoriously difficult to make perfectly. Either the unit size isn’t quite right, the edges just don’t quite line up, or they’re just not quite square. Ugh. Even experienced stitchers encounter these problems.
The Four Patch Square Up© Tool is the solution. Like all the Studio 180 Design rulers and processes, this tool and technique will have you build your units slightly oversized and then quickly trim them to perfect shapes. The Four Patch Square Up© Tool is designed to work with units that finish to whole or half inch increments, from ½” finished up to 6” finished unit sizes. Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star

Finally, a tool and technique that will allow any quilter to quickly, easily and accurately piece traditional Lemoyne Star blocks in 10 different sizes! The block units are strip pieced, assembled without using any “Y” seams, pieced so that the blocks themselves are slightly oversized so at the end each can be trimmed to an exact size. Offset Four Patch Technique Sheet

Galaxy

Galaxy is a beautiful alternating block design using two types of blocks, one with a red star and one with a blue star. Because of the color placement and the different angles in the triangles, the interesting interlocking circles appear and the second star block disappears into the circles. It’s a fun optical illusion, easy to make and even easier to admire.

Tucker Trimmer II

An “in between” version of the original Tucker Trimmer I tool, this handy ruler allows you to do all of the same functions as the first except that the sizes of the units are in ¼” or ¾” increments. Although these particular sizes are not nearly as popular as the ½” and whole inch increments available on the Tucker Trimmer I, they are sometimes part of your quilting projects. And if you’ve ever tried to trim down a 2¾” hourglass unit you will highly appreciate this tool. The diagonal guidelines on the Tucker Trimmer II will cross precisely at the center of a 2¾” unit so finding the center is a breeze. A great supplemental tool to have in your ruler collection.

Country Fair

Country Fair is a scrap version of a traditional Carpenter’s Wheel block. I love the illusion of interlocking frames around the star blocks in my Links quilt. This pattern is written with two different size options. The smaller, twin-sized version was featured in the Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Fons and Porter Love of Quilting. Since then I have had so many requests for a larger size that I decided to include a queen-sized version in the pattern. One of my favorite things about this design is that it looks hard...but isn't!
