Freedom Rings is our latest fabric collection and we're excited to share it with you! Designed by Deb for Island Batik by Lumin Fabrics, this collection highlighted by bold red, white, blue, and gold fabrics bursting with stars. Freedom Rings was created to celebrate our nation's 250th birthday and we think these fabrics will be perfect for your summer festivities.

We have an exciting week planned, with new patterns from Studio 180 Design and some of our Certified Instructors. There will also be some guests on our blog this week that you won't want to miss. And of course we'll be sharing all of the wonderful projects and quilts on our social media.

Every collection we create starts with color ideas and tjaps, the stamps used to create batik fabrics. Once we have our ideas in place, we send them off to Island Batik and they send us back small pieces of fabric called strike offs. That's when the picking begins!

We gather in Deb's studio and layout all of the strike offs and begin selecting the fabrics we love. The more we narrow down, the more cohesive the collection becomes. From hundreds of strike offs we end up with 22 fabrics.

We look for things like value and clarity of color, along with how well the pieces we've chosen work with each other. There is usually at least one helper in Deb's studio making sure we pick the right things!

Once we have our fabrics chosen, Island Batik makes our sample bolts and we can get to work on making quilts. Our collections always feature new patterns inspired by the fabrics, and remakes of favorites from our pattern library.
For Freedom Rings we chose to remake Mountain Blaze and New Year's Star. These quilts lent themselves perfectly to the bold color palette of this collection.
Mountain Blaze features the Rapid Fire® Lemoyne Star tool and the Blazing Lemoynes technique. Perfect for the bold colors of Freedom Rings, we love how this quilt looks.

New Year's Star is a simple pattern made with just the Tucker Timmer® and V Block® tools. Remade in red, white, and blue fabrics, it's reminiscent of fireworks in the night sky.

We released our 100th BlockBuster block last year, and in celebration we created a new quilt layout to help you showcase your blocks. Our brilliant graphic designer colored Centennial Showcase in Freedom Rings and we think it makes a perfect red, white, and blue themed quilt.

There is much more to come this week! Starting tomorrow we will have some guest bloggers here and we'll be sharing their original designs and projects made with Freedom Rings.
