Have you ever been in the middle of a project only to discover that you were required to make something in eighth inch increments? How frustrating! Deb likes to call these impossible fractions. We have two brand new tools to help you with these tricky sized units.
The Eighth Inch Tucker Trimmer® trims down 13 different unit sizes in 1/8”, 3/8”, 5/8”, and 7/8” increments. It’s perfect for those times when you just have to trim something to an 1/8”. You can use it for all of the units that your regular Tucker Trimmer® makes: half square triangles, quarter square triangles (hourglass units), and combinations of half square and quarter square triangle squares (combination units).
It has multiple diagonals to help you align the ruler guide lines with unit seam lines to quickly locate the center of pieced units. Construction is easy and precise every time!
It’s also handy for cutting those 1/8” squares from strips.
The Eighth Inch Wing Clipper® can trim down 8 different size flying geese that finish in 1/8”, 3/8”, 5/8”, and 7/8” increments.
Just like the original Wing Clipper®, this tool uses the Fast Flying Geese construction technique that allows you to make four finished units from five squares. Every unit will be exactly right every time!
Of course, both of these new tools use our signature technique of oversizing the units and trimming them down to the precise size needed for your project. All of the math has already been done for you, so there’s no struggle to make these units perfect every time!
We know many of you will want to jump right in using these tools without waiting for the perfect project. What better way to do that than with some free blocks?
Here are three brand new blocks for you to try out your Eighth Inch Tucker Trimmer® and Eighth Inch Wing Clipper®.

We all have favorite things in our sewing spaces that make life a little easier when we’re quilting. They can be notions that are made specifically for quilting, or they can be something else entirely! Those of us who work at Studio 180 Design are no exception. Here are the things in our sewing rooms that we love working with.
